Notes

The fourth edition of Thomas Bewick's first great work, produced in collaboration with his partner and erstwhile master of his apprentice days Ralph Beilby, and first published in 1790. Bewick provided the engravings and Beilby the text, both working in their spare time following days in their printing workshop. It was an immediate success, and reached an eighth edition by 1824.
