FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. [ii], xxix, [i], 340, xxvi. Near-contemporary Cambridge-style panelled calf, spine divided by raised bands, edges sprinkled red. A little spotting and toning. Binding rubbed, leather cracking at head and foot of joints, front pastedown lifted. Early ink ownership inscription of George Sayer to front pastedown.

Notes

The third work of travel writing by British spy John Macky (d.1726), who infiltrated the Jacobite court in France in the 1690s and fed information back to England regarding the plot to restore James II to the throne. After a failed espionage operation in 1714 he turned to travel writing to attempt to repay his debts.
