Notes

The first edition of this historico-economic analysis of Britain's position as a result of previous wars, 'written to dispel the gloomy apprehensions of those who supposed that the country was in a ruined state at the close of the American war' (McCulloch). Further editions followed in 1794, 1802, and 1810.
