Todd and Bowden's 'second edition, first issue', although using mostly first edition sheets. The gatherings B to O in volume 1 have been reset, correcting a spelling error on p. 31 but retaining the incorrect numbering of chapter 6. Per Todd and Bowden 'it must have been prepared immediately after the first, for leaf N6 is still subject to cancellation'. In this example leaf N6 in vol. 1 is not cancelled, and is the variant without the press figure to the verso. This work was the first of Scott's works of fiction to have his name in it - albeit signing the introduction in vol. 1 rather than on the title-pages.
