Lightly rubbed and scratched, spine slightly sunned, some marks to boards. Notes

This edition of Terence, elegantly printed by Charles Whittingham, was produced by Charles Old Goodford (1812-1884), headmaster at Eton, in order to give as a leaving gift to his sixth-formers. The binding was evidently a standard one as multiple copies are known in identical dress. This particular copy retains its prize leaf, indicating that it was given to Reginald Charles Edward Abbot, 3rd (and final) Baron Colchester (1842-1919), who led a full life as a barrister, fellow of All Souls and Charity Commissioner, among other positions and honours, but died without issue.
