Notes

An early reprint in the same year as the first edition of the stories of Edinburgh detective James McLevy - his casefiles given a narrative polish for a Victorian public hungry for detective stories. Curiosities of Crime in Edinburgh went through 4 editions in 1861 printed for William Kay; this edition was probably produced to accompany McLevy's second volume of detective stories, 'The Sliding Scale of Life' which was published by Nimmo later in 1861, although the exact chronology of editions is hard to pinpoint. All of them are now scarce, with this edition unknown to Library Hub; Worldcat locates three copies in North American institutions, and one in the NLS, apparently in error, although they do hold all four of Kay's 1861 printings.
