FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. xvii, [iii], 298 + frontispiece and 12 tinted lithograph plates. Original ribbed green cloth, boards bordered with elaborate frame in blind and blocked centrally in gilt, spine divided by blind rules and lettered and blocked in gilt, top edge gilt. Spine lightly sunned, some wear to extremities. Armorial bookplates of Sir Humphrey Francis de Trafford and Frederick Ralph Weld to front endpapers.

Notes

The first edition of an influential fishing book by William Scrope (1772-1852), 'an excellent classical scholar, a keen sportsman, and one of the ablest amateur artists of his time' (ODNB). It was reissued in 1854 but without the tinted lithographs of this edition, printed by Day & Haghe.
