Description

4to, [vi], 17, [1] + 6 binder’s blanks at rear. Contemporary rose calf, boards elaborately bordered in gilt and blind, gilt thistle corner pieces, centrally blocked in blind with a rectangular pattern of foliate sprays, gilt roll to edges, spine gilt in compartments divided by triple gilt rules, lavender endpapers. Light spotting. Boards a little soiled, edges slightly rubbed. Inscription to flyleaf: ‘Angus Fletcher of Dunans’.

Notes

A prettily-bound legal thesis for proceeding to the office of Advocate through the Faculty of Law at Edinburgh, probably the defendant's own copy. Angus Fletcher of Dunans (1805-1875) went on to become an eminent Advocate and Justice of the Peace for Argyllshire, as well as serving a long tenure as Solicitor and Comptroller of Inland Revenue in Scotland.
