FIRST ENGLISH EDITION, 2 vols., 8vo, pp. xiii, [iii], 510, [2]; xiii, [iii], 671, [1] + frontispieces to each volume, 126 plates (including 16 in colour), and 4 folding colour maps. Many more illustrations and one further plate included in pagination. Original blue-green cloth, front boards and spines blocked in gilt. A touch of spotting. A little rubbed, extremities bumped, spines a touch sunned.

The first English-language edition of Arctic explorer Fridtjof Nansen's account of his attempt on the North Pole during which he reached a latitude of 86°14' - the 'farthest north' anyone had yet been.
