12mo, pp. [xii], 160, [iv] + 2 plates and engraved title-page. Early rose calf, bordered with blind rolls with centrally blocked gilt emblem, gilt spine, blind compartment borders and dentelles, dark green morocco labels, marbled edges and endpapers, silk ribbon. Spotting, initial binder’s blank excised. Boards marked, extremities lightly rubbed.

Notes

Campbell's long poem, Gertrude of Wyoming, addresses America's lost Arcadianism due to the Revolution, blaming British and Indian savagery for the country's loss of pastoral innocence.
