Description

16mo, pp. 158, [2] + frontispiece. Title-page engraved. Original green wrappers printed in black, colour pictorial label to front wrapper. A touch of spotting, poor-quality paper a touch toned. A little rubbed and creased, lightly soiled, joints starting at ends.

Notes

A scarce provincially-printed games guide, claiming descent from Hoyle's 18th-century works though likely with little connection beyond the name - in its original decorative wrappers. Although card games make up the bulk of its contents, it finds room also for backgammon and chess. Library Hub does not record this 1862 printing, but finds 5 other mid-19th century Halifax editions, each represented by a single holding.
