An indictment against John M'Donald, ship's carpenter, for multiple instances of theft and breaking and entering. M'Donald broke into a boat-builder's workshop in North Leith and stole tools, took clothes from the house of a stabler in Grassmarket, stole a chest from a cart on North Bridge, a trunk from a cart in Grassmarket, and numerous other similar thefts across the second half of 1781. The indictment is followed by a list of 31 witnesses and 45 members of the jury (or assize), including William Forbes, from whose collection this example originates.
