Description

FIRST EDITION, 8vo, 3 vols., pp. [ii], 320; 339, [1]; [ii], 348. Half-titles and advertisements discarded. Slightly later half calf, spine divided by gilt rules and lettered in gilt, marbled boards, edges marbled. Several bifolia partly sprung, title-pages toned and a few gatherings rather spotted, a bit of other light soiling and spotting. Rubbed, spine ends and corners worn, joints cracking at head.

Notes

The first edition of Scott's historical novel set in Elizabethan England, which re-ignited the intrigue surrounding Amy Robsart's (1532-1560) death. Scott finished the book on the 27th of December, 1820, and the printing was completed by the 5th of January, 1821.
