Notes

A mimeographed scholarly translation of Pedro Monteclaro's 1907 work, which purports to relate the pre-colonial history and customs of the Filipino island of Panay. The translation is preceded by a foreword by the translator and is footnoted throughout. In 1957 Monteclaro's son Juanito supervised a reprint of a version of the text in the Austronesian language Hiligaynon, which seems to have been the source text for this translation - additionally Juanito Monteclaro is here credited to the verso of the title-page with having given his 'special written permission' for the mimeographing of the text. That 1957 printing is now scarce, with Worldcat recording three copies, and this translation seems to have escaped the historical record entirely and it seems likely that it was produced in a very small run, using fragile and non-archival materials, making its survival somewhat unlikely.
