8vo, pp. [iv], 262, [2, ads] + frontispiece. Later quarter red morocco by Birdsall & Son, red cloth boards, spine lettered direct in gilt, edges speckled red. Binding papers foxed, else just a touch of spotting. Boards just a little marked. Armorial bookplate of Sir James Reid, Bart, to pastedown.

Notes

This biography of a pioneering surgeon was owned by Sir James Reid, the Scottish doctor who served as physician-in-ordinary to Queen Victoria (for which service he was awarded a baronetcy in 1897), Edward VII and George V.
