Notes

A handsome copy of the sole octavo Foulis printing of Paradise Lost. It was a popular title with the Foulis brothers who also printed duodecimo and quarto editions in 1750 and further half dozen further printings over the following 26 years. This copy belonged to politician Sir John Trollope (1800-1874), second cousin to novelist Anthony Trollope.
