A scarce pamphlet, presumably from early in its establishment, detailing the rules of the Edinburgh Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Sciences, Manufactures, and Agriculture, from presidential election to meeting times to prizes given to artists, scientists, essayists and other such contributors to the intellectual and material culture of Enlightenment Edinburgh. This Society was a subsidiary of the Select Society, a debating club founded the previous year, to turn some of their talk into action. An appendix lists the Managers of the new subsidiary, which included the philosopher Henry Home, Lord Kames.
