Notes

The second edition of Sir Humphry Davy's fishing book was given six new plates to augment the three present in the first published a year prior. Although best-remembered now for his prodigious and numerous scientific achievements, Sir Humphry Davy (1778-1829) was also a keen angler and dictated this, 'the first book devoted exclusively to salmon,' (Merritt, "Angling Books." The Princeton University Library Chronicle 41, no. 1 (1979)) from his sick-bed while convalescing; it was popular enough to reach a 5th edition by 1869.
