The first issue, Currey's 'A' binding, of the first separate printing of Lovecraft's long story, unpublished in his lifetime but written immediately after his return to Providence in 1926 and marking the beginning of his writing longer stories, including most of his best-known titles. It first saw print in the Arkham House collection Beyond the Wall of Sleep in 1943, then was serialised in The Arkham Sampler in 1948, with this edition reproducing that text.
