Notes

The first complete publication of the enormous compilation of north-east Scottish folk songs made between 1902 and the First World War by schoolmaster and musician, Gavin Greig (1856–1914) and the minister James Bruce Duncan (1848-1917). A small selection only was printed in 1925, and Duncan's notebooks only rediscovered four decades later, leading to this major undertaking printing both music and lyrics for almost 2000 songs, organised by subject, with glossaries and indices. Produced over twenty years and spanning the closure of the Aberdeen University Press in 1996 - the first four volumes have their imprint, the last four the Mercat Press - it is scarce to find complete.
