The King of Elfland’s Daughter. With a Frontispiece in Photogravure by S.H. Sime.

  • Dunsany, Lord
  • London: G.P. Puntam's Sons 1924

FIRST EDITION, NO. 218 OF 250 COPIES, SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR AND THE ILLUSTRATOR, large 8vo, pp. [xvi], 301, [1] + frontispiece. Original quarter vellum, orange cloth boards, tan morocco label to spine, top edge gilt, field grey dustjacket printed in black. A little spotting, damp-marking to frontispiece. Over-tall dustjacket inevitably rumpled at top edge, chipped to spine-ends and nicked with a couple of additional short closed tears to top edge. Signed by Lord Dunsany to preface and Sydney Sime to frontispiece, short signed note from Sime loosely inserted, bookplate to flyleaf.

The first, limited edition of a landmark of fantasy literature, signed by both author and artist, in its scarce dustjacket.
Loosely inserted into this copy is a note addressed 'Dear Smith' from illustrator Sidney Sime, bidding 'send me the story and I will read it, and write to Miss Connell. I knew Mease but slightly, but he mentioned the story to me once at the Savage. Give my regards to Broadway'.
