Description

NO 104 OF 250 COPIES, 4to, pp. 32, [2] + 2 plates. Illustrations printed in black and orange included within pagination. Original red cloth, front board blocked in gilt. Boards just a little rubbed, a touch of wear to extremities. Double-sided ALS from Guthrie (slightly worn at corners) loosely inserted.

Notes

An attractive production from The Pear Tree Press, the personal press of James Guthrie. As well as the printing, Guthrie wrote the text and contributed most of the illustrations; the frontispiece is by his son Robin Guthrie.
Loosely inserted is a double-sided letter to a Mr Weiss from Guthrie, dated April 1935. Guthrie writes about his son Robin's prospective book 'The Primer of Printing' (which did not see the light of day) and reminisces about the Pear Tree Press's first production, their 1901 printing of work by Edgar Allan Poe.
