Notes

The first English edition of geologist and traveller Faujas de Saint-Fond's account of his travels around Britain, undertaken in 1786 but not published in French until 1797. He is credited with being the first to recognise the volcanic origin of the rocks at Fingal's Cave on Staffa. In this copy, two of the plates have been bound as frontispieces instead of their more usual position within the text.
