Description

FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. [viii], viii, xxiii, [i], 200, 16 (ads). Black and white illustrations throughout. Original glazed cream pictorial boards printed in blue, green, and gold, gilt floral printed endpapers, all edges gilt. Binding rubbed to extremities and somewhat marked, joints starting. Carlisle bookseller’s ticket to front pastedown.

Notes

The first edition of Leigh Hunt's pastoral poetry on Sicily in its original boards designed by Owen Jones (1809-1874), with illustrations by regular Punch contributor Richard Doyle (1824-1883). Rare to find in such good condition, with minimal wear to the boards and joints.
