Numerous other illustrations included within pagination, many full-page. Partially-unopened in contemporary tree calf by Henderson and Bisset, boards bordered with gilt rolls, spines divided by raised bands gilt, red and green morocco labels, other compartments tooled in gilt, top edges gilt, others untrimmed. Spotting to textblock edges. A little sunned to top edge of one board. Original red wrappers printed in black bound to rear of each volume.

Notes

A beautiful set of the illustrated version of Green's History, shepherded through the press by his widow, which begins in the fifth century and covers events to 1872. This set is in a delightful tree calf binding by the Edinburgh firm of Henderson and Bissett but retains its original red paper wrappers, bound to the rear of each volume.
