Notes

A pamphlet published by the American Historical Association (AHA) to report the findings of the Committee on Women Historians. First formed in 1970 after an ad hoc committee submitted a report to the AHA calling attention to the need 'to develop the sustained attention and pressure indispensable to an advance in the status of women'. After the first ten years of writing annual reports, the committee began producing pamphlets with findings and recommendations for women in the field, like this one. While the copyright is dated 1980, the foreward is dated 1982, and some of the council members listed bear dates 1983 and 1984 next to their names, making the exact date of this copy a little murky.
This copy belonged to Scottish historian Maureen Meikle (1961-2023), who first entered academia in the 1980s, making this a potentially useful tool for her career ahead.
