Description

8vo, pp. 248. Original blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt, yellow dustjacket printed in purple and black. A touch of spotting. Dustjacket somewhat soiled, a few edge-tears repaired internally with tape.

Notes

The second edition of Lindsay's most famous and influential novel, which CS Lewis called 'shattering, intolerable, and irresistible'. It was first published in 1920, and was, per Gollancz's introduction, 'a plain flop' (p.5) with only 596 copies sold and 834 remaindered. This was the first time it was reprinted, the inaugural novel in Gollancz's series 'The Connoisseur's Library of Strange Fiction', which ran to four titles, half of them by Lindsay.
