8vo, pp. 402, [14, index] + frontispiece, 22 plates, 2 of which folding, 1 folding table and 1 folding map. Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, spine divided by raised bands, red morocco label. Rubbed, some wear to edges, spine a little creased. Traces of a label, now removed, to foot of spine, incription to flyleaf: ‘Dr Caryl’s present to Buckden Library 1779’.

Notes

The second edition of Gostling's 1774 local history, shepherded through the press by his family following his death in 1777. ESTC records an irregular pagination, which this copy does not have, although p. 317 is misnumbered 517 as called for. It reached a fourth edition by 1796.
