The boards issue of the first publication in book form of William Burroughs' long-gestating work about death and a Mayan God, following an illustrated 12-page extract in the short-lived narcotics-enthusiast magazine Rush in 1976. It has its genesis in a comic collaboration between Burroughs and illustrator Malcom McNeill for Cyclops magazine (equally as short-lived as Rush and with a similarly lysergic bent) in 1970, 'The Unspeakable Mr Hart'. A full illustrated work, then renamed 'Ah Puch is Here', was commissioned the following year but the winding-up of its publisher in 1974 left it without a home and unpublished until this edition, which omits McNeill's illustrations entirely. The illustrations were published by Fantagraphics in 2012; a complete edition uniting text and imagery as intended is yet to be produced.
