12mo, pp. xii, 256, 192 + frontispiece, 3 plates and 2 folding maps. Modern marbled boards, red morocco label. A little spotting, folding maps torn and sometime repaired with cloth backing, maps browned and marked from glue, one map proud and chipped to edges. Ownership inscription of Sir John Hope MP, Pinkie House to title-page.

Notes

A popular touring guide to Scotland. First published in 1819, it had reached a 9th edition by 1834. This copy belonged to Sir John Hope, 11th Baronet, who was MP for Midlothian from 1845 til 1853.
