Original drab paper boards, boards and spine lettered and blocked in brown, illustrated paper mounted to front board. A little spotting, mainly to endpapers. Neatly rebacked, boards just slightly marked and rubbed to extremities.
The first printing of this charming collaboration between Scottish artist Evelyn Beale (1870-1944) and artist Winifred Christie (b. 1871), with an advertisement in the rear attributing the rhymes to Beale and the pen and ink drawings to Christie. Beale went on to study at the Glasgow school of Art from 1915-1919, specialising in sculpture and known as one of the 'Glasgow Girls', but here contributes the words instead of the images. Christie is often identified as the Scottish pianist (b.1882), but her contribution being the accomplished images and the existence, albeit obscure, of an artist of the same name makes this unlikely.
