Description

FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. [xii], 232. Untrimmed in contemporary blue paste-paper boards. Sometime somewhat crudely rebacked in sheep, spine lettered direct in gilt, new endpapers, boards a little rubbed and soiled. Pencil ownership inscription to flyleaf dated 1967, small paper label printed with letter ‘L’ pasted to rear board.

Notes

The first separate publication of Ruddiman's introduction from his 1739 edition of Anderson's 'Selectus Diplomatum et Numismatum Scotiae Thesaurus', a work which even by 1773 had become 'a book of high price, exceeding scarce, and only to be found in the cabinets of the curious' per the preface. Originally in Latin, it has been translated for this edition. It was popular enough to be reprinted in 1782.
