Description

4to, pp. [ii], x, 390 + 1 plate. Half-title printed in red and black. Modern green morocco, boards bordered with a gilt rule, spine divided by raised bands between gilt rules, 2nd and 3rd compartments lettered direct in gilt, other compartments tooled centrally in gilt. Scattered toning and spotting. Ownership inscription of Wm Waddel to flyleaf.

Notes

An edition of 85 of the tunes contained in the Skene Manuscript, which dates from the first quarter of the 17th century, and is now held in the NLS. This edition, in a handsome modern binding, is dedicated to the members of the Bannatyne and Maitland clubs, but this is the trade issue with the title-page bearing the imprint of Robert Pitcairn's Edinburgh Printing and Publishing Company; issues bearing the imprint of both clubs with their respective membership lists bound in before the contents leaves were also produced.
