Some scattered toning and spotting. Rubbed, somewhat worn, small sections of leather peeling from boards, hinges starting. Ownership inscription of James J. Robertson to flyleaf, dated Dec 1953.


A scarce Leith printing of John Howie's 1775 collection of Presbyterian biographies. Library Hub records just 2 copies, at BL and Newcastle. There are also two recorded copies with a variant imprint, also printed by Allardice in 1816 but with J. Ogle's name substituted for Thomas Nelson and the location changed to Edinburgh.
