FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. 304. Original red cloth boards, spine lettered in gilt, grey dustjacket printed in green and red. Spine cocked, dustjacket a bit soiled, spine panel and folds toned, a little chipping and creasing to edges and an area of loss to foot of spine panel.
The first published edition - a privately printed run preceded it and a very similar-looking book club edition came out at the same time - of Waugh's most famous novel, adapted for television with Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews and for cinemas with Emma Thompson and Ben Wishaw (and an even more star-studded HBO miniseries helmed by Luca Guadagnino currently looking for financing). The fragile jacket is often found more damaged, restored, or heavily soiled.
