Description

4to, pp. [iv], 317, [1]. Contemporary red crushed morocco, boards bordered with a gilt roll, spine divided by green morocco inlays gilt, second compartment gilt-lettered direct, others with central urn or roundel tools, edges gilt, marbled endpapers. A touch of faint foxing. Extremities the merest bit rubbed, a few light marks, front joint expertly renewed, joints just cracking at head. Modern armorial bookplate of Perran Wood to pastedown.

Notes

A pencil note speculates that the binding is by Edwards of Halifax, and the tool on the spine inlays does indeed closely resemble one commonly used by Edwards (a roll of alternating pentalobes and concentric circles), but there is no firm evidence of the binder.
