Description

FIRST BRITISH EDITION, 8vo, pp. 253, [1]. Original yellow boards, spine lettered in black, pictorial dustjacket printed in black and yellow. Edges lightly spotted. Dustjacket a little rubbed and slightly worn at edges with a couple of short creases.

Notes

The first British edition of Arthur C. Clarke's fifth novel, which became his most successful at the time, selling out of its first US print run in 1953 with Ballantine. This is the variant binding of yellow boards, slightly shorter (with the dustjacket trimmed to match) and plainer in style than the blue cloth variant. No precedence appears to be recorded but the stylistic differences may suggest a later issue, though since the dustjacket retains the original price of 10/6 it seems unlikely to be a remainder.
