Description

SOLE EDITION, 12mo, pp. 24 + hand-coloured frontispiece. Partly unopened and stitched as issued in original blue paper wrappers, front wrapper printed in black. A little light soiling, slight creasing to title-page. Wrappers split at spine.

Notes

A scarce little collection of verse mostly in address-and-answer format between 'Valentine' and various types: faithless lover, gentleman, miser, coquette, old batchelor, etc. Various catalogues guess a date between 1798 and 1830, but BBTI puts the publisher's active period at 1820-1826 and the printer (George Smeeton, at 139 St Martin's Lane) between 1808 and 1839. The Yale catalogue attributes the frontispiece to Isaac Cruikshank.
