Description

16mo, pp. 430. Printer’s device to title-page. Eighteenth-century dark brown sheep, spine divided by raised bands with gilt roll, red morocco label lettered in gilt, other compartments tooled and bordered in gilt with central floral tool, colourful paste-paper endpapers, all edges stained red. Foot of title-page sometime neatly repaired, obscuring part of date. Binding rubbed, a few holes from insect damage to spine and rear board. Printed booksplate of Mure of Caldwell to front pastedown, early ink ownership inscription to front flyleaf, some early marginal ink marks and notes.

Notes

A sixteenth-century edition of the longest surviving ancient Roman poem, an epic version of events also covered by Livy. Even with the date rubbed and removed from the title-page, this copy possesses the '&' on p. 3 as called for in Baudrier.
