Notes

One of the most important German works on turning, largely based on French models but with some original ideas from the author, Johann Gottlieb Geissler (1753-1816). Geissler was a technical writer and translator from a family of craftsmen, and spent some time studying watchmaking in Zittau (a subject about which he also published a large multi-volume work), but otherwise little is known of his life.
