Hunter loosely inserted.

Notes

An inscribed copy of a scarce book of poetry, recorded by Library Hub in 3 locations: NLS, BL and Oxford, all of which date it firmly to 1931; Hunter's statement in the accompanying letter from 1971 that 'it is over forty years since I had the book published' just about tallies. The poems are organised thematically, and one section, 'Poems of War and Courage' contains a poetic tribute to the Gordon Highlanders, an account of the rescue of the shot-down crew of the German Zeppelin L-15 and a poem on the Christmas truce of 1915; other sections include a reflection on Hunter's three years in India, a verse eulogy for Florence Nightingale and a metrical account of a bad sneezing cold suffered by the poet.
