Description

8vo in 4s, pp. viii, 315, [1]. Contemporary calf, boards bordered with a gilt roll. A little light spotting. Plainly rebacked, hinges relined, old leather scratched and marked, corners rather worn. Booklabel of John Hume, M.D. with small label of John Maclaren on it, ownership inscriptions of Charles Sarolea to endpapers and title-page, inscription of W. Henry Henderson dated May 1850 to flyleaf.

Notes

The fourth Foulis edition of Cornelius Nepos - though the edition statement may result from the first such, in 1742, being only published for Robert Foulis and not printed by the Foulis press. From the enormous collection of Charles Sarolea, Belgian philologist and professor at the University of Edinburgh, whose library outgrew his Royal Terrace townhouse until he purchased the adjacent building to house it.
