A scarce yellowback printing of a novel by Scottish soldier and novelist (and distant relative of Sir Walter Scott) James Grant (1822-1887), best-remembered for his 1880 publication Old and New Edinburgh. Fairer Than A Fairy was first published in three volumes in 1874; this undated reprint likely precedes Routledge's 1879 publication of Grant's The Royal Regiment in the same format, as the ad leaves make no mention of it, nor of any of his works published later than 1874.
