The first book by Borges to appear in the UK, using the American sheets of the Grove Press edition. The dustjacket advertises 'selected essays' but the contents are all stories, taken from the 1953 expanded edition of the Spanish collection of the same title. The translators for this edition include poets Alastair Reid and Ruthven Todd.
