FIRST EDITION 8vo, pp. viii, [3]-345, [5, ads] + frontispiece and 4 plates, one of which folding. Further illustrations included within pagination. Original purple cloth, boards blocked with a blind frame, front board lettered direct in gilt, spine blocked in blind and lettered direct in gilt. Some spotting, a little toning, contents-leaf chipped, small edge tear. Sometime recased, endpapers renewed, spine sunned, spine-ends bumped and nicked, small tear to cloth at foot of front joint. Inscription to verso of frontispiece thoroughly struck-through.

This local history of East Fife finds room, alongside numerous notices of Pittenweem and Crail and a biographical dictionary section of local notables, for a capsule biography of Pope Leo X, 'Proofs from Science of the Existence and Superintendence of the Deity' and a lecture on Hebrew Poetry.
