FIRST EDITION, 12mo, pp. xx, 52 + engraved frontispiece and 20 plates. Contemporary half calf, marble boards, spine divided by double gilt rules, compartments with central lyre tool in gilt, edges sprinkled red. A little spotting and toning. Binding extremities a touch rubbed, possible loss of morocco label. A small spider flattened and dried on front endpaper, ink ownership inscription of Mary Banner to p.1, dated 1823.

Notes

The second collection of reproductions of antique cameos by the engraver Richard Dagley (1761-1841) - his first book, in 1804, was 'Gems selected from the Antique' - which accompany informational verse by Rev George Croly (1780-1860), otherwise known for his bitter satire and arch-Tory protestantism.
