FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. 128. Original pale yellow cloth, spine lettered in black on a green ground, yellow dustjacket printed in green. Dustjacket torn almost completely at front spine fold, chipped and creased to top edge and a little rippled to rear panel. Pencil ownership inscription to flyleaf.

The first edition of this anthology compiled and introduced by C.S. Lewis from the writings of theologian and novelist George Macdonald, praised by Lewis in his foreword as 'my master', claiming 'I fancy I have never written a book in which I did not quote from him'.
