16mo, pp. 16, 154, [2] + engraved title-page, 10 plates (7 of which double-sided) and 1 folding colour map. Original orange wrappers printed in black, pink flaps pasted to inside wrappers. Tear to fold of map, stitching a little strained in places. Wrappers a little soiled, spine covering chipped to foot. Commendation slip tipped in to flyleaf, ownership inscriptions dated April and October 1943, a few corrections made in blue pencil.

Notes

A handbook to Matheran, a hill station in Maharashtra, western India, which was first published in 1924. This copy comes with a tipped-in slip with a quote from Roger Lumley (here 'Lumly') governor of Bombay, commending the book, writing 'I found it very useful and I feel sure visitors will find it of great value'. Library Hub records just two copies, at Oxford and the BL.
