FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. [ii], vi, 454, [2, ads] + frontispiece and 1 plate. Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, spine divided by double gilt rules and lettered direct in gilt, other compartments tooled centrally in gilt, edges sprinkled blue. Plates toned. Just a little rubbed, extremities bumped and a little worn, rear hinge sometime relined with tape, now yellowed. Armorial bookplate of Rev. William Battersby to pastedown, gift inscription to Mary Battersby to half-title.

The first travel book by Edinburgh-born children's author Catherine Sinclair (1800-1864), narrating in an epistolary form a journey through England and Wales undertaken in 1833.
