Notes

The substantial response on behalf of John Lawson to the charge of perjury brought by Alexander Penrose-Cumming, following Lawson's oath and vote in the general election of 1784. Lawson's response gives a thorough examination of the history of electoral registration and the process of creating electors by distribution of land ownership.
